Greetings to Each of You
Boys~
You do not seem so much like strangers to me ~s you did
when the paper was printed last m~nti1"
Since then :i h::lve
some of you who were able to get Lorn...).
! am ho_p;i,r;g that
same privilege may come to all o.f. you socm.,
During these six weeks o.f le.at wG ore thinking vc:>:y
seriously about our own li vos.,
It iz al.m:)f.i ~; a t5.me of
personal inspection for all of us.
k.n we l.co1~ ~!nto :;LU'
lives we realize there is no source of stability greater
than that found by faith in God.
That faith is deepsned
in our own lives as we follow more closely day by day the
great example of. our Master, the one through whom God rovea~ed Himself to us by showing how a God-like life can
be 1iYed.
·
"He has achieved greatnoss who has lived well. laughed
often, and loved much ~ who has always looked for the
best in others and giYeh.the beat he had.••
In one way
or another we are all doing this, and we can ali do it
more perfectly.
Fo~ so many these are not days in which
we can laugh much; but despite their grim qualities, our
lives can attain greatness.
These times prevent us from
doing all of those things we. would like to do most; but
wherever we are we can live our lives in such a way that
our. friends back. home will be proud of us.
We, who are
your friends at'home,·are trying to make our personal
lites the.kind thatyoti will be proud of on returning.
We are all looking to Christ as our example and Saviour.
All of us must give tho best we have to build a hew worltl.
The better we build our own lives, the better we will be
able to make this world
ours in the future.
Each day.
no matter where we are ..:during this lenten season, we can
deepen our allegiance to those things which are most worthwhile.
We pray that your lives and ours may grow rich
with meaning during these days.
I have heard it said that the boys and girls who arc
now away from home, want everything kept the same as it
was when they wqnt away.
Vhoevor thinks this, is fooling
himself.
It would be the most disappointing return anyone ever had if there was no progress..
..iidvanctl at home
and advance away from home is what we are .striving tor.
We arc all growing.
\/o are all advancing.
Let this
time be one when we can work with God in letting our own
individua~ livos achieve greatness.
·.God bless and holp you in your strivings,
Rev. and Urs., Dale .Tannings.

PASTOR'S P.AGE
Greetings to Each of You Boys:
"-.l'J
~
our nation has been in our first thoughts these days.
With you it has been the very pattern of your lives.
Perhaps July does not eeem to have so much specia~
significance, not more than any other days which are packed
so ful~ of antional duty.
Yet~ hero lies the d~te of the
founding of our notion, a time when we think more of national achievements than we do at other times of the year.
In your church bore at homo flies two flags. tho Christian
and the Amoricon.
I name tho Christian flag first for a
purpose.
Tho stars and stripes con moan little to one who
is not an American.
It can fly with meaning only over
American land.
Perhaps this cauls be said of the flags of
other nations if we wore of there nationa~ity.
Proud as we
arta of our flag and our independent heritage, we have to
realize that it is local in chsractor; while tho Christian
flag can fly over any land and with any national flag.
In
other words it is an international flag, having its homo in
the whole world.
It is the only flag which can be universal
as has bean proven time and againt and oven today.
It is
the only flog that cgn fly above our stars and stripes.
Did you over stop to think that tho colors in our American
flag arc the sooc colors as are found in tho Christian flag.
That should mean something to us today.
It should reveal
how closely our notion w~s founded on Christi~n principles.
Whenever tho American flag flies alone in our land or in any
l<w<i thoro also shines forth the true colora of Christianity.
vlhercvcr those colors arc not kept alivo by tho force of
Christ in tho lives of American citizens, that flag flies
empty and meaningless in tho hearts of those same people~
Our flag divorcod from Christianity could como to moen
exactly what the sweatika meant to tho Gorman people, and. we
could become reprsscnt~t:ve of those things which we fight
against today~
If we as h:ncricens live up to our colors,
live Up to the foundation rock upon which our Fathers built
this l.and, we must be Gh:dsti~n.
That offers a tremendous
challenge to y0!.:. 3:ld I tod.ay.
It means that we must evor
What does this wr.t:tXJ to us.?
keep the colors of our nntional emblem unfaded.
The only
way we c~n do this ia b,y living up to the colora of our
Christian flag.
It moAns that our lives must shine forth
with the vivid red of sacrificial giving and serving, the
deep blue of Christian t~uth which is universal, and the
unstained white of Christ-like purity. . This is tho
challenge of our. national holiday and of our national emblem.
May God guide you each dey,
