Our Principal's Message
We are living in an exciting age - an age
characterized so vividly by the advancement of
knowledge. According to a recent, widely-quoted
statement, "Knowledge available doubled from the
period 1900 to 1950, doubling again the decade from
1950 to 1960 and that it is to double again from
1960 to the end of 1963." The advancement of space
travel finds its source in this growth in knowledge.
Thus, the youth in our schools today are serving
a type of apprenticeship to this advancement and
will gradually find themselves playing greater roles
as their training continues and their experiences
expand. Consequently, we learn that we are responsible not only to ourselves to secure the training
to play a more complete part, but also to our fellow
man in supporting his carrying out the experimental
functions of this age. My congratulations to all of
you in your educational efforts, and in particular to
the seniors who are completing their first phase.
Remember- education never ceases.

In Memory of
The students and teachers of central were inexpressibly shocked by the tragic death of DannY
Dixon. Danny's smiling face and cheerful personalitY
are sorely missed by all.
Danny will be remembered by his fellow students
for his great interest in this school and the many
varied parts he played in promoting its welfare.
He was ready and eager friend to all, and always
did his share in school activities.
Toward the end he had developed a love for learning
and a deep desire for new knowledge; the future
seemed to hold so much promise.
Teachers and students benefited by his presence
and will long mourn his passing. We miss hirrt and
mourn the fact that his life was all too short.

Blue Hawaii
Palm trees swayed on May 5, 1962 as Frank I<;empf and Gail Wedman reigned over the
Junior Prom. Grass Huts and Fish nets mingled with the swaying palm trees provided the at1
mosphere for "Blue Hawaii." Attending the King an.d Queen were: Ellen Wagner and Dennis
Gabriel, Charlotte Fowler and Fred Keppler, Mary Getka and Tim McLafferty, Noreen Krahn
and Dennis Weis, Barbara Tapp' and Rog~r Augero. The prom-goers danced to music provided

1962 Homecoming Royalty
Dennis Poisl, captain of the football team, reigned over the 1962
Homecoming with Carol Kempf as his queen. The Queen's court included:
Barbara Elsfelder and Frank Kempf, Millie Krahn and Dennis Weis, Mary
Vojtech and Ken Halbach, and Shirley Ferris and Fred Keppler. Everyone
seemed to have a wonderful time even though we lost the Homecoming
game.

CONFERENCE CO -CHAMPIONS
This year's basketball team will long be remembered as the "surprise"
team of '63. Rated by all the dopsters as the least likely to become a threat
at the opening of the season; they, nevertheless, caught fire in mid-season
and proved to be the giant killers of the conference. They made all of us
proud by emerging with a tie for the title with Waterford and by beating
Waterford twice during the season. We salute the fine work of the team
and the coaches! The following seniors played their last year of basketball
for Central: Bob Dougherty, Captain; Ken Halbach, Jim Anderson, Ken
Daniels, Dennis Poisl, and Dem1is Dunek.

Nelson gazed around and noticed Harold Ga''hel, Dennis Gabriel,

At that moment the sound of a small brass band came from
the bridge. It was led by Carter Schuld, while Ruth MaGwitz,
Kathy Ostman, and Patricia Price followed him. Ellen Wagner

of chorus girls were on. Cheryl Schmidt was in the front of the
stage with Arlene Jewell, Karen Muelheisen, Catherine Webster,
and Kathy Wright taking up the foreground. Outside there was
a thunder of gunshots. They rushed to the door to see David

Dave hit the dirt. Edward Ellin~son and Dennis Walden rushed
out in white uniforms and carried a stretcher. They picked him
up and straddled off the street.
They noticed the day was drawing to an end , and they dec:ided to go to the hotel. They caught the train which was
just leaving Frontierland. They noticed Leroy Kni;;ce pilot the
train to it's destination. The Nelsons flopped themselves on
the nearest seat which happened to be right across from the sea~

On their return trip,to their surprise they saw C~~rlotte
Fowler, Miss America of 1963, who was on her way to New York
to be in charge of the Miss America pageant of 1975.
When they reached home they just settled down on the couch
