A man was walking along the beach one day when he heard a voice say, " Pick up all the
pebbles that you can , and tomorrow you will be both happy and sad "
So he picked up a few pebbles and put them 1n his pocket The next day he was indeed
happy - the pebbles turned into fabulous Jewels , but he was sad that he didn 't pick up more
So 1! 1s with education - you are happy for what you got , and sad you didn 't get more .
Good luck to all

Double
Feature
Did you ever stroll down
the hall , and just happen to
notice the same person
pass you by twice? You
may have seen twins , just
like the two sets in the
freshmen class.
Shyni and Shyla Mathen
are identical twins whose
heritage reaches back to India. Many people are known
for mixing them up. When
asked what they envy
about their twin , Shyla said
her sister sings better
Shyni feels her twin is prettier.
Jackie and Jenny Jacinto
are also identical twins .
Their ancestory reaches all
the way to the Philippines .
Most of the time they spend
in each other's company.
When asked what they envy about their twin , Jenny
said her sister had a special
talent for playing the piano.
Jackie found that a few minutes difference in age matters. She is envious that
Jenny is older.
Many people have wondered what it would be like
to have a twin . Take it from
Shyla , Shyni , Jackie , and
Jenny, it 's alot of fun when
you get along .

IT'S A STITCH
The 1990 spring musical was a
hilarious musical comedy. The Pajama
Game consisted of a cast of 42, 1/ 3 of
them " rookies ".
The fast paced 1950's story filled
with non-stop song and dance took
place at the Sleeptite Pajama Factory.
Here we found an unusual salary
4 Q Spring musical
dispute taking place. The factory was
constantly full of surprises and
steamy romance as some very
talented performers thrilled the
audiences . The Pajama Game proved
to be an exciting and impressive
experience .
Clockwise from far upper left:
1. " Pssst. .. listen to this one!! "
2. " How about another swig for
Hinezie? "
3. Keeping his audience on their
toes, Prof. Hines performs his
knife throwing act.
4. Prez explains his plan on how
to get a 7 1/2 cent raise.
5. Senior Barbara Hasper races
with the clock.
6. " I'm in charge here now", says
senior Steve Becker as the new
superintendant, Sid Sorokin.
7. "We got Steeeeam Heat!! "
8. "Where's my secretary? "
exclaims J.D. Fountain as Mr.
Hasler.
9. Hinezie in front of the Sleeptlte
Pajama Factory.
10. Junior Heather Free as Mabel
and Senior Brian Estill as Hines
had the audience in stitches.
11. "The tops are 15 minutes
behind the bottoms!"
12. Sid sings of his love for
Babe.
13. ''I'm not at all in love,"
claims Jenna McQuestion as

Flip Side
Offense vs . Defense. Which
one is more important? Which
one wins the game?
If you ask a guy who plays
offense, I'm sure he'll say, "
Offense, we score the points.
You can 't win without points."
And if you ask a guy who
plays defense. I'm sure he'll
say, " Defense, we hold the
other team back. You can 't
win if we let them score. "
The football season for our
" bomb squad " was great.
The offensive team stunned
our opponents by scoring 170
points this past season. The
defensive team stopped the
opponents to only 73 points.
So if you want to know
who's more important,
" Offense or Defense," just
know that it takes a team to
win .

KICK IT
Kick it is an appropriate
tittle for such a unique sport
as soccer. You use only
your feet not your hands to
move the ball around. This
is a technique that our soc-
cer team has mastered .
Senior Paul Hamilton had
this to say about the season. " I thought we would do
better than we did. Our offense was lacking but our
defense was as good as
any in the state."
The season was proved
to be a success despite the
aggravation of the mosquitos.

In the Green
I remember that match like 1t
was yesterday . The pressure
was on because I was facing a
d1ffucult putt on the eighteenth
green.
I looked to coach Dan
Chubrillo and he gave me the
signal to putt out. He also gave
me these words of
encouragement " This hole is a
par four . And you are on your
fourth shot . If you make this
putt we will win the match ."
I started sweating perfusely. I
had to make that putt! The
gallery was so quite. Their
silence was screaming in my
ears . I wished they could cheer
for me
Once the green I held my
putter up to align the shot.
Then , I addressed the ball.
Taking a deep breath I
contacted the golf ball. It rolled
and the ball hit the lip of the
cup and dropped 1n!! WE WON!
Right: Peter Wokwicz perfects his
swing .

Family Fun On The Run
You had to be there . One
could only experience a crosscountry meet through their
own eyes. What made it different from most other sports?
There was a certain unity between everyone on the team .
They weren 't just classmates ,
but brothers and sisters running together, suffering together, and cheering each other on . A cross-country meet
was more like a family outing.
Our two dads, coaches
Thomas McTernan and Mark
Fuerbringer, were a strong
source of encouragement
along with captains MaryAnn
Dosemagen and Billy Principe.
The team ran a good season .
Congratulations to the great
job.

SPIKE IT
Spike , Dig , Ace
.. What do
these words mean to you? To a
volleyball player they mean the
elements of a sucessful offense
and defense
First of all , you need to have a
good bump or dig in order to set
the ball in preparation for the
most
important element - The Spike .
Then alertness comes into play
Being ready to block the ball is
very important , otherwise 1t 1s
difficult for a back row player to
receive a spike . A change of
pace , like d1nk1ng the ball over
always catches the opponent off
guard .
Seasons come and go, and
when it 1s over, all the hard work,
time and ded1cat1on pay off So ,
whatever your perceptions of
these odd and peculiar words ,
iust remember there are 12 players who worked vigorously to
prove to not only to themselves ,
but to everyone, that 1t takes the
whole team as one unit to succeed .

For the ''Love'' of It
The Lady Lancers Tennis
Team came out swinging
in '89 . Everyone couldn 't
wait for the challenge of
the new season . Heather
Free's thoughts for the
season were, " This year
proved to be tough , but we
have improved a lot from
last year."
Part of the reason for the
improvement was Coach
Karnes who has been the
girls ' tennis coach for
many years. " He helps us
a lot; he 's a great coach ,"
according to number two
singles player Nathalie
Mendivil.
What will the next year
hold for the Lady Lancers?
Hopefully more
improvement, more
experience and more fun!

TALL at heart
Dribbling, Rebounding, Steals,
and Lay-ups, are all words
describing our " Strictly Business"
Lancers this past season. One
word that didn 't describe them
was height. With the tallest
player measuring 6ft., the Lancer
team had their work cut out for
them. What they lost in height
they made up in speed. With the
use of their quickness, the
Lancers dribbled and stole their
way to 11 wins and 12 losses.
They opened their season taking
2nd. in the Thanksgiving Classic
and 2nd. in the Badger Classic.
Nail-biting and heartpounding games came when our
cardiac kids played Pius in 2
overtimes, losing 66-68; playing
Dominican and winning with a
last second shot, 61 -59; and
playing St. Catherines, losing in
final seconds, 58-59.
With the return of the 1990
M.V.P. Myron Glass and the
excellent and improved others,
next seasons highlights are
destined to be radiant.

TO THE HOOP
Team spirit soared
throughout the gym when the
1989-90' Lady Lancers took to
the court. Coming off a record
breaking season of 20-2, the
girls set even higher
standards this past season.
With three returning starters,
the Lady Lancers were hoping
to defy all odds and beat
Powerhouse Pius.
Lacking height and bodies,
the Lancers pulled together
and played Pius tough.
Unfortunatly their high hopes
and the desire in their eyes
just wasn't enough to beat
them in the final round of
Regionals.
Nevertheless, the Lady
Lancers successfully
completed an excellent
season with a record of 22-3.

Quality At Its Best
Trackin' It Down
This year wa truly a test of skill for the
Lancer Track Team. Both guys and girls had
mall team , e pecially for state. But, this
proved to be no problem for the guys in
particular.
The guys had seven runners at state,
including one jumper. They competed in the
100 meter da h, 400 meter relay, 1 mile relay,
long jump, and the triple jump. All togeth r,
the team placed fourth at state and showed
quality is b tter than quanity. Fred Thielen,
for example, was a state champion.
The track banquet was held at Casa Capri.
Fran Thiele and Anna Knight were awarded
the M. V. R. Awards. Congratulations to them
and the re t of the team for a great season.
Thank al o to our coaches Dave Domini,

''Fresh''
Start
At the beginning of
the new school year,
the tasks we all had to
go through were much
the same as every
other year.
We started out with
book buying day, the
only day that even
though school hasn't
officially started, we still
had to wear the dress
code.
For the incoming
freshmen, there was a
small twist to their
8 2 Freshmen Fun Day
schedule with
Freshman Fun Day.
Which is, as most of us
see it, freshmen
gathering around in the
courtyard playing
games, and eating
hotdogs. Their goal
was to get to know the
school and their future
classmates.
But for the rest of us,
it was the beginning of
a prosperous, new
adventure into the new
school year.

"Turn my ring"
were the three
words spoken most
often on Junior ring
day.
Juniors ran from
classmate to classmate asking for ring
rotation in hopes of
collecting 91 turns.
Why 91 turns? It
sounds peculiar but,
" It's a tradition," ex-
plains Diana Zdanowicz, " the 91 st
turn brings luck
through out the
year."
The days activities
included a mass,
banner signing, and
a party in the courtyard, which brought
everyone alot closer
as a class.

Looking Back to Freshmen Year
Floatbuilding , we can 't help
but laugh . It brings
back so many memor ies
about the week of preparation
for our very first Homecoming . Everyone would eagerly
go to floatbuilding because it
was a way of getting to know
each other . The advisors
pulled us together,
friends introduced friends ,
and slowly but surely we
began to become a class .
As for the upper classm en , our motives for
floatbuilding were question-
86 Floatbuilding
able . After the first night it
was obvious that things
had really changed . Most
seniors talked about going
to floatbuild ing , and some
actually did go for awhile .
But for most it ended up
being a night on the town .
For those who did go it
was a time for goofing
around , laughing , talking ,
l i sten i ng to music ,
eating . . . everything but
assembling a float. We
seemed to think it was the
advisor's job to build our
float .

Hey, what 1s this
supposed to be?
The question asked
of Ben Gayheart by
Dave Schmitz .
But, the advisors had a different
idea. Turning red in the face from
all the yelling trying to get the
seniors to work, most advisors
and seniors in the end give in
and put together a great looking
float.
Floatbuilding is probably the
highlight of preparations for
Homecoming for freshmen, but
for all it is good times and years
of memories.

St. Joseph played Pius on
Homecoming Day
It was October 21, and the
sun felt like May.
In the Metro Conference, Pius
had three wins and two
losses,
But the Lancers showed
them who the boss is.
The first touchdown was
scored by Myron Glass,
It was a 61 yard run, not a
61 yard pass.
The defense was sparked by
the Senior men,
Forchette, Fox, and
Sorensen.
Rutkowski, Hopkins, and
Hawver, played good defense
as well.
They dominated the game,
as you could tell .
The highlight of the game
came near the end of the first
half,
When I thought about it, it
really made me laugh .

With Sizzle
Remember what it was like
watching Sadie Hawkins skits
and having absolutly no idea
what the Senior girls were
doing , especially when they
imitated teachers? Didn 't you
wish you were up on stage?
Then through the next few
years , we excitedly anticipated
our senior year with skits. Well ,
our time finally came.
Preparing for skits was
nothing like we thought it
would be! When the curtain
went up on, " Puttin on the
Skits, " everything fell into
place.
The senior girls showed
the school their odd , funny
and daring personalities.
Some people you never
would expect did some
pretty outrageous things.
Overall skits was very
exciting , but it went by too
quickly. Before we knew it, it
was time for the last skit,
" We Are The World ." Finally,
a word of advice to all the
underclassmen girls, Sadie
Hawkins Skits is the last
event for seniors until
Graduation---make it last and
good luck!

RIES-'90
Senior Banquet was a time to recap
and conclude all of these memories
with a video show of old pictures
and of course, the infamous senior
awards .
• • .FREE AT LAST . • •
Thursday, May 31st,
1990 will always be a
date the class of '90 will
remember with a smile.
For this was the day the
seniors took that last walk
down the halls of good 'ol
St. Jo es, together as a
class .
After celebrating a
liturgy mass with family
and friends , the seniors
gathered in the
gymnasium in their caps
and gowns.
Speeches were given
by (Right) Valedictorian
Barbara Hasper, and
Salutatorians Paul Hamilton and

The sophomore class

retreat is different than
most retreats, in that
instead of talking about
God and life, they talked
about sexuality and
maturity.
Sex is a big topic in high

sophomores talked
openly and honestly
about it, which isn't

The yearbook dance was a

Brunch are two completely

alike in one particular way,
they draw each parent closer

It has been tradition that
the seniors at the brunch and
dinner dance come up with
some form of entertainment.
At the dinner dance the
girls enlightened their fathers
by singing the delightful song
" The Twelve Kinds of Fathers
We All Love."Then later,
Kathy May, a junior, sang
" Wind Beneath My Wings "
and "Oh , Daddy."
The guys filled their
mothers with laughter when
they featured a very
humorous poem . Also, Scott
Sandberg had some stand up
comedy, and Mrs. Siemion
was serenaded with " Earth

Other places for spring break

Others just stayed in good ol'
