SCHOOL
LIFE
As a whole, school spirit
seemed to shoot up , to sparkle, and to soar highly this
year. Without this school
spirit shown by the Trojans,
our school events and activities wouldn ' t have provided
such entertainment and enjoyment as they did. The
screaming at the football and
basketball games, the splashing at swim meets , the slamming of lockers, the stamping
of feet down the hall , and the
extraordinary food in the cafeteria helped to make this a
memorable year for the students of Tremper.
In the colored picture at the left the
Trojans are seen enjoying the homecoming pep assembly on Friday,
October 14 , 1965. During this assembl y the five queen candidates
were presented by their managers.

The enthusiasm of the students was really high. Never
before had there been so
much excitement at Tremper.
Campaign meetings, pep assemblies, and special days
added to the general mood .
The fact that we lost the game
didn't spoil the festivities to
any extent.
Finally came the crowning of
our very first homecoming
queen. Karen Neumann and
her court reigned over the
first dance of the school year!
The fun , excitement, and enthusiasm was a great start to
a terrific year at Tremper.

CHRISTMAS
CHORAL
CONCERT
The student body and the public
surely got in the real spirit of
Christmas if they went to the annual Christmas Choral Concert.
This excellent performance was
displayed by the orchestra and the
combined choirs of Tremper. Each
choir sang separately and the
finale included the singing of
carols by the massed choirs. We
want to thank the students who
placed the true meaning of Christmas in the hearts of many.
The second annual Winter Concert was presented on December 8 at 8:00 p.m. by the
Tremper High School Concert Band. One of the
highlights of the performance was the appearance of Fred Hemke, our guest soloist. He is
the assistant professor of music at Northwestern
University and is known throughout the country as a saxophone lecturer-recitalist. He has
appeared with many college, university, and
professional groups, high school bands, and
orchestras. Under the direction of Donald K.
Moely, the program was a huge success and
was appreciated by the entire audience.
ORCHESTRA
CONCERT
The first Christmas Concert to be held in the Tremper auditorium on December
18-19, 1965 , found the Tremper Orchestra and the A Cappella Choir collaborating
in a thrilling performance long to be remembered . On February 9, 1966, Mr.
Nosal and the Orchestra presented an assembly on " Perceptive Listening" as one of
a series of educational assemblies. The Orchestra's newly acquired formal attire
was first seen at it 's February 15, Mid-Winter Concert which featured four orchestra directors from the Kenosha Schools as soloists. On February 26, Tremper was
one of eight orchestras to perform in the Tremper Gymnasium at the most successful
City-Wide Orchestra Festival ever held in Kenosha . A " Superior" rating in the Class
" A" Competition of the WSMA Contest held at Tremper was taken in stride for the
second year. The second annual " Spring Concert" was one of the finest performances
of the year. Trumpet soloist, Jim Haynor and Judy Lehrmann who received the
ational School Orchestra award presented by the Western Kenosha Kiwanis Club
highlighted the May 10, Concert. T he 1966 graduation exercises held on June 9,
commenced and closed to the strains of the Tremper Orchestra .

Steve and Jane are at it again!! Our 1966 Variety Show was emceed by Dave Markese. :\1ary
Spraker and Claire Kitchin were the co-chairmen. ~!any different crews, such as the lightin~
crew, the stage crew, and the make-up crew, helped to make the show a great success. There was
a little of everything in our Variety Show this year. inging, dancing, skits, chickenman, and even
a bed scene helped to
make this year's show enjoyable for anyone who
attended.
BASKETBALL ~~66''
Our boys worked very hard this year. All the time and effort they spent
practicing proved quite worthwhile. The assemblies and school spirit added
to the excitement of the basketball season. Our basketball team deserves all
the credit and honor that was given to them by the faculty and students.
PIN!!
Tremper 's
Matmen

Batmen!) worked and struggled very hard this year. But
all their practice and hard
work after school proved
worthwhi le. Special congratulations go to Alan Kreuger ,
who deserves distinctive recognition for winning the state
championship in his classification.

SUB-DEB'S
WINTER FORMAL
Tuesday, December

Tremper's first SubDeb Formal. The
cafeteria was truly

" Wonderland
by
Night. "
Wonderland by Night
Shades of Christmas all around.
Beams of silvery light
Snowflakes falling to the ground
Upon a joyous night.
Boughs of holly deck the halls
And cheery laughter rings
Sweet bells toll in steeples tall
While great choirs sing.
On this enchanted eve in December
When everything's merry and bright,
It's something we'll always remember,
This "Wonderland by Night."
- Joanne Robertson
WONDERLAND
BY NIGHT
Snowflakes,
stars, and mistletoe all created
the majestic atmosphere of the
dance. The
music was provided by the
Muzzy Pillizzi
Orchestra . Everyone who attended would
agree that SubDeb this year
was a large success.
BATMAN CAPERS
The Batman was the center of the theme for the dance which was sponsored by the
sophomore class. We all had the privilege of seeing the Batman during our lunch hour
when he was advertising and selling tickets for the dance .
MUSIC BY THE STINGRAYS
The Stingrays provided the live entertainment at the
dance. Batbubblers, Batrooms, and Batman himself added
to the festivities of the evening' 1
Everyone who attended had a gay and swinging
time . Batman danced quite a bit in the spotlight with some beautiful girls' Anyone could
say the dance was a huge success' 1
BOOSTER CLUB
DANCE
Booster Club sponsored " For Old Times Sake" which
was held after the Tremper-Bradford game. An enjoyable and fun-filled evening was in store for anyone
who attended. The Imperials provided the entertainment for this very successful dance .

Y:lr. Tremper was a new addition to the acuv1t1es at Tremper this
year. The senior class sponsored the activity which created a great
deal of school spirit. The girls in each class chose one boy who they
felt should be Mr. Tremper. Three from each class who received the
largest amount of votes ran for :\fr. Tremper. The boys were allowed
to put up posters and wear buttons. Campaigning was greatl We
heard each one over the P.A. and saw each one walk through the halls
dressed in their suits. These boys were examples of character, leadership ,
ambition, and interest in school life. D'Arcy Byrd was the choice of the
entire school to be Mr. Tremper because of his wonderful personality
and interest in his school and fellow students.

ALL BECAUSE
As the plot thickened Agatha Forbes, a witch,
came bounding into the room. Salem, Mass. was
the scene of this hysterical comedy about a couple,
Duff and Joan, who move to get away from her
relatives and wind up with a witch instead. Mrs.
Boggs adds a lot of humor to the play with her
psychic society organizations. Ethel, a rough and
tough maid with beautiful possibilities, meets
Flip, a wise mouth reporter, who takes advantage
of these possibilities. They fall in love and create a
lot of pandemonium on the stage.
30
OF AGATHA
Dr. Randolph , a forty year old bachelor down the
street with a " kooke" for a mother , plays a femme
role very well- switching to a muscle beach
character in the end, thanks to Agatha. Thelma,
an overbearing aunt who thinks she's sophisticated
and has been married three times , chases Dr.
Randolph but in the end tables are turned and
the doctor chases her . Madame Lasolda played a
beautiful drunk and held some great comedy lines.
She played a dominating mother who was very
superstitious. Last, but not least, is Agatha; a
splendid performance by a hammy witch. She was
great and stole the show with her witty lines and
actions. Mr. VanBuren who sold the house to
them in the beginning knew this would happen

to the fun , excitement, and hilarity of this year's
unforgettable Sadie Hawkins Dance.
OUR EXCHANGE
STUDENT
DORA COBAR
Dora Cobar, our A.F .S. exchange student, joined us in August of " 65"
and left in June of " 66". During this time she lived with Sue Piehl. Below
Dora tells her story.
On April 3rd, 7948 I was born in Tiquisate, a small town owned by the
United Fruit Compan y. Here I went to a grade school where everything
was taught in English, at the s.ame time I took private classes of my subjects in Spanish. After seven years it was time for me to start the second
part of my education. For this I had to leave to Guatemala City, where
I stayed with my mother's aunt and went to the English American School.
I wasn 't the only one in my family. I have one sister who is 79 yrs. of age
and two brothers, one 76 and the other 75. We are all studying away from
home. My sister and I have been always together, and my brothers have
gone to the same school. Every year for vacations we went home and
spent the three vacation months together. Then when January came again
we had to leave home; it was always hard.
In 7964 we were transfered from Tiquisate to Bananera . Bananera was almost like Tiquisate but I
hated to leave my home town, where I lived for 76 years. Before too long I had made many good
friends.
Sports have always been my favorite hobbies. I love to swim, play softball, golf, tennis, ping-pong
and many others. Once I played in a golf tournament and I ended in third place with a score of 777.
We were all starting to play, that's why we did so bad.
In 7964 I applied for an American Field Service Scholarship. The next year I was told that I was
one of the 35 that were coming to the U.S. I was told where I was coming and all the other information. On Aug. 23, 7965, I left Guatemala City, and arrived at Miami. The year 7965-66 I spent it in
our great Tremper High School.

GRADUATION
On June 9, 1966, "Pomp and Circumstance" gained a new significance for the Tremper graduates. They marched into the gym, clad
in royal blue caps and gowns and a royal blue and scarlet red tassel.
After the pledge of allegiance and national anthem, .Jan Yi yers gave
the invocation. :\Ir. Burshtan gave the welcoming speech and Beth
Garren and Richard Steffensen gave the commencement messages.
uperintendent Maurer accepted the students and the diplomas were
given out by Dr. Raymond Pelteir, vice-president of the board of
education. Senior class president, teve Holt and '.\.1r. Burshtan a sisted him. After Richard Duncan gave the benediction, the second
year of graduates from Tremper High School recessed out of the gym.
This was the program which was
held in our gym. However there
were many smaller things which
the graduates could never forget.
:\Ir. Burshtan was speaking at
Tremper for the la t time. :\Ir.
Runestad was directing our A
Cappella Choir for the last time.
The graduates all joined together
to sing their Alma '.\later for the
last time. In fact , this was the last
time they would all be together.
None of the graduates will forget
these things, but they will be overshadowed by the future. Each
graduate must look ahead and
achieve the goal and aim that
they want in life.

The sophomore wrestling

year right along with the varsity wrestlers. Their coordination, timing, and skill with
different moves made our
sophomore team capable and
strong winners. Their ability
to be as great as they were this
year will help the varsity for
Tremper next year. Confidence and strength makes good
wrestlers and that's what the

at Tremper this year. Hi-Y not only sponsored this successful dance but they made quite a bit of
money which they are using to give two $7 5 scholarships this year. Also they are giving $100

KEY CLUB
Key Club began the year by initiating fourteen new members. This was a very "formal" initia tionsuit, tie, white gloves and spats-although the traditional peanut races were also held . If you ca n' t
tell a Key Club member by his black sweater, tie, and pin, then you're sure to know him by the
bag of peanuts that he is holding in his hand . elling peanuts at Tremper 's football and basketball
games is one of the many ways the club raises money for the scholarship it gives annually to a deserving senior Key Club member. Key Clubber's were also seen helping build Tremper Homecoming
float and ushering at the Kenosha Invitational Debate Tournament. The Key Clubs main project
for the year was raising enough money to send a deserving handicapped student to camp this summer. They held a very successful car wash and the necessary funds were raised . .Jackie Brown, of
Homeroom 106, was unanimously chosen by the membership to attend Camp Waubeek near the
Wisconsin Dells for two weeks in .July. More important, however, than either the scholarship or the
worthy project, is the laughter they cause and good will the Key Club members spread about the
school with their friendly smiles and helping ways .
OFFICERS
Key Club officers for 1965-66 school year were John

OUR
ADMINISTRATION
The education of a caveman, like himself, was very crude. The
stress was on physical labor-how to survive with nature. From
those days we have come a far way. Education was first given by
parents, then in country schools, and finally in great complicated
institutions. In the first two types there was no need for a ruling
body, but Tremper is an example of the latter. Tremper consists of
more than 2,000 students, 90 faculty members, a kitchen, custodian,
and office staff, and to rule these we have three fine administrators.
Mr. Burshtan is the principal; Mr. Hooper makes out the schedules;
and Mr. Kranen takes care of attendance. Standing behind these
men is the School Board, which governs all the schools in Kenosha,
Joint District# 1.

BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPARTM ENT
:\Jr. Schmale
:\1r. Peuerson
Business education covers such classes as typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and work
experience classes. Its main goal is to teach these students secretarial work and sales
work for getting part time jobs and full time jobs when out of school. It is an effective
aid for these students whether or not they go on for further schooling. Basically, these
are "tool" subjects, which aid in producing better-adjusted citizens.

SOPHOMORE OFFICERS
From left to ri~ht: Debbie Barndollar, treasurer; Dave Iaquinta, vicepresident ; Gary Goff, president ; Arlinda Eaton, secretary.
These were the four students elected by the sophomore student body to represent their class. These officers execute
and carry out the duties asked of them.
They sponsored a dance which was largely attended by the
student body and which proved quite successful. We must
commend these students for their hard work and the time
and energy they spent in making this year very satisfactory.

How to Write a Success Story
Let's start with a brief description of the Hero of your Success Story.
He or she can be a machine operator, a housewife, a store clerk, a teacher, a
clergyman, a union official , or engaged in any activity you may select. To write a
truly successful story, however, you must endow the Hero with four essential characteristics .
The Hero of a Success Story has a willingness to learn. For the Hero there is no
final graduation - only a series of Commencementts that bring with them new lessons
to be mastered.
The Hero of a Success Story has an unending desire to succeed in whatever he
undertakes. The phrase "just as good " is not in his vocabulary . " Better than " are
his favorite words and the yardstick by which he measures his work.
The Hero of a Success Story welcomes responsibility. For just as exercise develops
muscles, so responsibility develops the man or woman. The degree of your Hero's
success will be governed by the responsibility he or she is willing to shoulder .
The Hero of a Success Story always gives more than he gets. He is too busy with
important things to measure accurately his own worth . His greatest satisfaction comes
from being of real service to his fellow man .
It is never too early nor too lat e to begin your Success Story. Writing it will not
be easy because success is never easily captured. But your chances of authoring your
own Success Story are greater in the United States than they would be in any other
country in the world.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS
SNAP-ON TOOLS CORP.-Kenosha, Wis.
Each student at Tremper will remember this year
for a special reason. Each reason will be different,
each important. With this yearbook, I hope that
the Classic staff has brought to your attention the
glorious and exciting parts of '65-'66. In future
years I hope this book will make those wonderful
moments of high school even more wonderful for
you.
