DEDICATION
To our friend, confidant and principal.
When we needed a helping hand you were always ready
with a word of encouragement.
We consider it
our good fortune to have been students
in your school.
It is with deep felt gratitude and devotion that
We dedicate to you, this,
our 1965 annual.

SCHOOL STARTED IN THE
OLD BUILDING BUT . • •
Although the students were attending school at Bradford, the dream of Tremper's
new building was alive. Above, Mr. Augustus is working at Bradford, the dream
has not yet become true. The other two pictures are the dream in reality. To the
left is a picture of the new spacious gym being waxed. Above to the left are the
stairs which the students climb. A true dream in themselves because they had
three floors to climb at Bradford and only two here at Tremper.

and the team's hard work.
The Team chose Jim
Trebbin and Tom Vena
as Co-Captains of their
team.
PRACTICE
MAKES
PERFECT!!
This addage has been used many
times in many ways but this time
it really has meaning. Through
long hard hours of practice in the
cold mornings before school our
infant team was able to finish the
season with a fine record. Cold
Weather, make-shift locker rooms,
and a rocky practice field seemed
not to dampen the spirit of these
devoted warriors as only one guy
was known to quit after the season began. Our hats are off to the
fine Tremper Trojans football
team.
Pictured above, Coach Smith gives words of encouragement and criticizes bad moves in order to make our
team a smooth running machine. To the left, "Doc"
Whitworth our able and patient trainer patches R on
Rysdam who was injured in the game the week before.
Below, to the right, the team prepares to put their
learning to use in our first game of the season.
HALF
TIME
ACTIVITIES
Gary Kuehl, the drum major, leads the Tremper Band across the field.
Entertainment of the highest class was provided
for all Tremper students this year.
A real change of pace was offered us when the band
played snappy tunes as; "Java", "Tailgate Ramble'',
"Cotton Candy" and "More".
An ensemble of the A Cappella choir was in its
finest form presenting a distinct arrangement of
"Amen". The stuc;lent ensemble consisted of Larry
Huissen, Don Jacobson, George Becker, Danny Nye,
and Paul Fenema. FRONT ROW Nancy Specht,
Sue Holicka, Diane Mancusi, and Janice Chernik.
All in all it was a year of first rate half-time at
Tremper football games.

THE JUNIORS
ORDER RINGS
While still at Bradford, the
Junior Class of Tremper
picked out the style and size
of their class rings. Their
rings were the first official
rings of George . Tremper
High School. They waited
with happy anticipation for
the March day when they
were finally delivered to the
lucky Juniors.
OUR CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
The Cross Country Team consisted of the following members: BACK ROW (left to right):
Mr. Thompson, Dave Peterson, Rick Arbanella, Karl Herbrccktsmcier, Gregg Michelson,
Bob Krieser, Tim Young, Richard Vandenburg, and John Palmer. FRONT ROW: John Dagon, Dave Splitek, Earl Sharnick, Brian Kipp, Bill Sunday, and Rick Huber.
16
THE RACE IS ON
The Cross Country team didn't do as well as it expected. but it has great hopes for next year. The team
showed great enthusiasm and tried their best. It is
hoped that their good sportsmanship will continue, in
the coming years.
The picture on the right shows Richard Vanderburg running
for the finish. Below. Tim Young is also heading for the finish.

WE FINALLY
MADE THE
MOVE • • •
THERE'S
STILL
A LOTTO
BE DONE
We finally made the move to two weeks before
Christmas vacation. It was a joyous event for
most students and faculty members. Regular
hours really seemed different. The seniors especially found an adjustment difficult after
two years of split shifts. All the students seemed
a little lost even though they had been supplied with maps to find their way.
Although school was in session,
there was work to be done. Wiring
was still being done in parts of the
building. The auditorium was far
from completion.
The bleachers in the gym couldn't
be pulled out on both sides of the
gym because the middle court baskets had not arrived.
There were hardships for many
teachers, and students. Many students were especially bothered by
the inability to watch the clocks.
After the first semester the last
ones were finally set at the correct
time.
There were problems and hardship , but all seemed happy to be
in the new school.
TREMPER TROJANS SCORE BIG
IN SPORTSMANSHIP
The first Tremper basketball team opened thier basketball
season in Bradford's Gym. Although we did not have a
championship team this year, our team spirit never failed.
Only two lettermen, Walter Glass, and Jim Trebbin returned from last year; and Trebbin was forced to drop
out on doctors orders before th~ end of the season.
Every game played was exciting and full of action. Each
player went in doing the best he knew how, though sometimes his best just wasn't enough.
Our team set a fine example of sportsmanship, that all the
future teams of George N. Tremper High school should
follow.

OUR
FIRST QUEEN
AND HER
COURT
The fi\'e candidates and their campaign managers
made their way towards the platform. The crowd
waited patiently for the revealing of the queen. The
queen, Robin Stauder, was presented with a dozen
roses and a crown.
Each candidate and her campaign manager had
worked \'ery hard. They had campaign meetings
almost e\'ery night before the election, and thought
up many clever idea . The week before the chool
voted the halls were filled with posters. The candidates made speeches over the intercom and were
interviewed over W AXO radio.

ROBIN STAUDER
AND MR.
AUGUSTUS
CHRISTENS THE
NEW HIGH
SCHOOL
Since there was no homecoming queen this year, one
of the most important events of the year was the
Christening Dance. The senior boys selected the
candidates. On Friday before the big dance the
whole school voted for a queen. At the dance that
night, the Student Council president. Jeffery Reilly,
crowned the queen, Robin Stauder.
Brlow, the Christening Queen, Robin Stauder, assisted by Mr. Augustus officially christens George X.
Tremper High School. The bottle of champagne is
broken against a pillar of the school in the commons
area. On the left. the Queen is pictured with her
court. In the lower left corner the queen and her
court is shown dancing to the music provided by
Tony Aiello.
TREMPER
BATTLES
MADISON
CENTRAL
Madison Central met Tremper at Bradford's gym
December 5, 1964. The strong determination of our
stalwart five again shone through. Even though they
didn't win, they showed great drive, and plenty of
enthusiasm. The pictures on these two pages show
the fine form and agility they displayed against Central. On the right D'arcy Byrd goes high in the air
to deliver his jump shot to the basket. Layups are also an important source of points and Walter Glass
is pictured above doing a shot. Fouls also play a very
important part in the game of basketball, and you
can always see the referee blowing his whistle, above
left.

Froseth. They had two guest artists, Mrs. Joan Beeler and
Dr. James eilson. Joan Beeler is currently a faculty member of the School of Music at Ithaca College. Dr. eilson,
an employee of Lablanc and resident of Kenosha, played a
duet with Joan Beeler. During the program the Kenosha

THE
SCHOOL
OFFICIALS
ANDA
STUDENT
BROKE THE
GROUND
That started it all. The construction companies then began work on the George N .
Tremper High School. After two years of
hard work, the school was finally ready for
2000 students. The move ended two years
of split shifts for most of the seniors.
The picture above shows the end of
the long two years. It shows the members of the school board and other officials inspecting the new school a week
before it was opened to the students.
At left, Mr. Otto Huettner, the present Deputy Superintendent of Public
Schools and formerly principal of
Mary D. Bradford, watches Laurie Seland, a future Tremper student, break
the ground for the new school.
In the upper right ph oto, Julius Goldstien, the School Board President, and
Harold Maurer, the School Superintendent, put the spade to work at the
ceremonies.
At right Alderman Vern Christiansen,
a long time supporter of the School
Board, speaks at the ground breaking.
CONSTRUCTION BY CAMOSY
The Camosy Construction Company Inc., 2604 Washington Road, was the general
contractor for the George N. Tremper High School. The school itself testifies of the
fine job that was done. The students can be proud of the beautiful building. ot only
did the Camosy Company do a fine job, but they also saw that the school was opened
a year before it was scheduled to open.
36
PLUMBING DONE
BYKAEBLER
PLUMBING AND
HEATING COMPANY
Another fine job was done for the city by the Kaebler Plumbing and
Heating Company, located at 5718 7 Avenue. They installed the
plumbing for the George . Tremper High School. They also cooperated with the general contractor and helped to have the school
open sooner than it had been thought possible.
M .A.C. CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
After the plans are drawn and the land is bought, what is the first
real sign of construction? The hole, of course, Tremper's first sign
of construction was accurately dug by the M . A. C. Construction
Company. This company also did the grading; making the outside
as attractive as the inside.
BROSK OFFICE &
SCHOOL SUPPLY INC.
Thanks to Brosk Office and School Supply Inc. Tremper's rooms are beautifully furnished. By quickly supplying the school with Library furniture like this, the students and faculty were ab le to enter the new school
earlier than expected.

A Message to a Lucky Student
You are one of an incredibly small and lucky minority of the world's people. The
American way of life is a miracle of history which you are free to enjoy, not because
of any effort on your part ... not because you deserve the better things of life but
solely because you were lucky enough to be born into it. Many are not so lucky.
More people live in huts of mud or straw than in any other kind of shelter.
More young people have a life expectancy of thirty-five years than of any higher
figure ... about half that of an average high school graduate.
More parents watch half their children die than see all their children grow to adulthood.
More people live without the help of a doctor than enjoy even the most simple medical care.
More people eat only what they grow ... and starve when there is no harvest than
obtain their food in any other fashion.
More people do not know what it is to vote than have ever voted.
The advancement of your way of life and the spreading of its benefits to others is
your future responsibility. For those who have the creative spark, ability, courage,
human kindness, stick-to-itiveness and leadership there will always be opportunities
unlimited.

On January 16, the Sophomore and Junior Classes
presented the "Sox 'n' Sneaker Hop". It was an
overwhelming success with 800 students there. Held
in our cafeteria and with the Stingrays playing their
best, the students had a great time and the Classes
made $440 for the coming Prom.
A change of pace was offered during the band breaks by the Four Winds, composed of Dan
Nye, Jerry Wheeler, Don Jacobson, and Dennis Stoner.

large because the girls did the asking. Another of the club's endeavors this year was
a teacher help program under which each girl offered to aid a faculty member. A
senior banquet was held in May to honor all the outgoing seniors.

Have you ever seen a play? Well, you probably have. In that play you saw the actors,
but there is more to a play production than the actors. There is the behind stage
workers or otherwise called the Stage Guild. They work on the props, make-up,
and costume . They regulate the lights and curtains, and build the scenery. The
Stage Guild is one of the most important parts of every play at Tremper High
chool.

AUDIO VISUAL DEPARTMENT
The Audiovisual Department is a very important part of education. They care for
films, tape recorders, the language lab, slide projectors, and many other facilities of
this nature. The department is responsible for seeing that all the material is to the
classroom on time. They help the teachers run their machines if he or she has not
had the experience. The Audiovisual Department has become very important and
will be even more important in the years to come, when films increase their popularity with the teachers as a means of educating the students.

OUR BAND WENT TO
THE WORLD'S FAIR
On June 30, 1964, the Kenosha High School Band left for New York City
to play at the World's Fair. Being one of the only two bands invited from
Wisconsin, the Kenosha Band then existed of both the Tremper and Bradford Bands. They played on July 3 at the U.S. Pavilion. Again on July 5, a
Sunday, they played a concert at the Tiparillo Pavilion (picture left ), and a
selected few ( 40) taped certain Sousa Marches for television viewing
throughout the fair. Besides playing at the Fair they also were given time
to tour the Fair by themselves, and on July 4, toured the United Nations,
Empire State Building, and took a boat trip around Manhattan Island. In
order to go on this trip the band members had to earn about $20,000, so
they washed and waxed cars, and received donations from Kiwanis Club
and other Kenoshans, Mr. Froseth is the able director.

The season's record was four wins and only four
losses. This could have been much better, but the
varsity team was plagued with injuries throughout
the season. This was apparent by an early season
tournament with ex-state champion Coleman. Our
team came in second by 3 points. Our placements
in tournaments were as follows; Milwaukee PulasKi
Invitational-second; Mundelein Quadrangular-second; Big Eight-Third, Regionals- fourth; Sectionals-fourth. Tremper sent three boys to the state
meet, but only placed one. They were Al Krueger,
Earl Shamick, and Jim Linderman.

The American Field Service's chief activity is the
encouragement of better relations abroad. Each year
an effort is made to send a student abroad to spend
the summer visiting a foreign country. Effort is also
made to bring a foreign student here so that the
students may learn about the customs and manners
of that country.

One of the greatest honors that could be bestowed upon
a musical group was given to the combined orchestras of
Tremper and Bradford early this fall. They were invited
to play at the Mid-West Band Clinic in Chicago. They
invited the Tremper A Cappella Choir to accompany them,
and the two groups presented a program long to be re-
membered. The crowd gave them a standing ovation as
a tribute to their fine performance. Mr. Nosal, director,
is pictured at work as usual. As an extra treat, they were
guests at a banquet at the Sherman House and saw My

OUR ADMINISTRATION
PHYSICS AND BIOLOGY
80
Science is very important in the schools today. Physics, the science which deals with matter and energy, is taught by Mr. Farnam and
Mr. Hadler. In addition to teaching Mr. Hadler acts as a counselor. Mr. Farnam is pictured below; Mr. Hadler, to the right. On
the left is Mr. Smith who teaches biology,
the science of plants and animals.
At right Mr. Huberty, waits patiently to
begin his Biology.
Mr. icolazzi, an advanced Biology teacher, is busily engaged in helping his students.
PERHAPS THESE SCIENCE
If there are any future scientists roaming the halls
of George Nelson Tremper High School it is probably due to the encouraging words of Tremper's
science department. These dedicated teachers were
always there to help anyone who wanted help.
Below, Mr. Glynn, a chemistry teacher seems to be worried
about his students. "Do they really understand?"

A FINE NEW MUSICAL
TRADITION
The directors of our two instrumental organizations, Band and Orchestra, are Mr.
Froseth and Mr. osal respectively. These
two men have put in hundreds of long
hours patiently leading their groups towards perfection. One school hour a day
is devoted to Band and Orchestra practice.
It is these hours cf practice that make our
band and orchestra the fine performing
groups that they are. It is during these
hours of practice that they review again
and again the numbers they play so well
at the con erts during the year. Tremper
High should be proud of these two dedicated leaders and grateful that they chose
our school for bestowing their knowledge
and talents.

MATH
ON THE
MOVE
Math, one of the three basic courses of a student's curriculum, is
represented at Tremper by: Geometry (plain and modern), 'Advanced Algebra (plain and modern), Solid Geometry and Trigonometry (plain and modern), and refresher Arithmetic. Math
also shows up in many of the science and business courses offered
here. The blackboard and the opaque projector are two invaluable
aids in the presentation of these courses. Mr. Adams is pictured ,
far left, drawing the basic geometric figures of his students. Mr.
Darula, at his right, is shown using his blackboard for the students' favorite purpose, assigning homework . Mr. Bussard, above,
is using the opaque projector to present difficult concepts in a
clearer fashion.
93
TREMPER'S COUNSELORS
The counselors are one of the students' greatest helps. They help each pupil
individually to plan their future. The students can bring all their problems
to their counselor and the counselors are always wi lling to help. Tremper's
counselors are from left to right: SEATED: Mrs. Galoonik (receptionist)
and Mr. Brittelli: ST ANDING, Mr. Kries, Miss Khurana, Mr. Wambach,
Mr. Hadler, and Mr. Owens. Mr. Valente is not pictured.
94
AND THESE ARE THE
STUDENTS THEY HELPED!
'
TRADITIONAL
AND MODERN
MA THEMATICS
BOTH TAUGHT
As our school has a two school tradition, Bradford and
modem Tremper, there are two types of math taught
in Tremper High. The traditional is the math that has
been used for years. The modern has basically the same
theorems, but it has some added concepts, on the theory
that sets it apart from traditional math.
Mr. Fearing draws a diagram for
his geometry students.

At left: Mr. Mealy gives his students
an assignment in geometry. At right
Mr.
ye, the Mathematics Department head, explains a concept to his
fourth year students.
Mr. Bussard explains an algebra problem
to his students.
HISTORY
BECOMES
MORE AND
MORE IMPORTANT
Social Studies is becoming more important
every day. Now, in addition to the required
American History, the students must also take
World History or Geography. At the extreme
left is a picture of Mr. Eaker who teaches American History and Audio-visual. To the right of
Mr. Eaker is Mr. Miszczak, and then Mr. Duesterbeck. Mr. Meslhak teaches Comparative
Government and World History; Mr. Duesterbeck, World History and Geography.
Mr. Biar on the left explains the concepts of
Social Problems and American History to his
classes.
On the right Mr. Fischer waits patiently for an
answer to his question. He teaches World History and Geography.
Mr. McCabe, American History and
Economics teacher, corrects some papers while his students are also busy at
work.

101
AND THEN WE ATE
December 7, the date of our move from Bradford to Tremper, was also the
date on which many students experienced one of the new occurrences of life at
Tremper. This was the closed lunch hour. The kitchen was not completely
done when we first arrived so we were required to bring sack lunches. This
monotonous affair ended on January 4 when the first warm meal was served.
This consisted of spaghetti, salad, bread, milk, and a dessert. The reasonable pnce and wide variety of foods attracted many students causing some
confusion around the meal ticket purchasing window and in the serving
lines. However, once everyone became used to process, the meals were served
without delay.

AND THEN CAME STUDYING
Mrs. Callahan helps a student locate information for his
term paper.
Some students get together on a research
project.
Mr. Miller answers Mr. Wegner's request to see a student from his study
hall.
THE BUSINESS
DEPARTMENT
OPENED THE YEAR
WITH SOMETHING
NEW
While the Business Department has most of the
same faces it had last year, it has introduced a new
co:irse into its curriculum. Notehand-Typing, a
course for college bound students, was offered for
the first time this year. There were other courses also such as typing, shorthand, and sales.
After moving to Tremper the students taking business courses, found brand new equipment which
helped the teachers. The shorthand rooms were
equipped with tape recorders and ear plugs so students could take dictation at their own speed of
writing. Above Mr. Primuth gives some helpful
typing pointers. At left, Mr. Schmule explains notehand to pupils.

FACULTY
AT WORK
The faculty although they can't pound learning
into their students sometimes wish they could.
They try to put across their points and to influence their students to desire learning. They
also try to prepare them for their roles in the
future as citizens, wives, husbands, and Americans. Above; Mr. Runestad teaches the art of
singing. Right; Miss Gorman talks to her home
economics class.
Above, right ; Mr. Farnham shows his students an
art form. Above, left: Miss Sullivan corrects English papers. Below, right ; Mr. Rafshol explains a
fact in American history. Below, left ; Mr. Thiel
helps his seniors better understand their own language.
JUNIORS
The Juniors are a fun loving group of students who are
caught in a web of "in-betweenness." They are not Seniors and the leaders of the school; they are not Sophomores, the underdogs.
The Junior officers are trying to combat this "in-be-
tweenness". They want the best Prom possible. They will
be setting the tradition for the Proms to come. The
officers are left to right Cathy Johnston, Secretary ; Cynthia Robinson, Vice President; Dave Speaker, President;
and Lynn Swonek, Treasurer.

SENIORS
The Senior Class has finally reached an end to the years
of secondary education. They must meet the challenges
of the world, but first they must graduate. The Seniors
elected June Lauritsen, Secretary; Arleen Yordi, Treasurer; Tim Rose, President; Dan Nye, Vice-President to
,,
sezve as planners for this event. (Pictured left to right
below.} They plan to have a fine commencement ceremony. They will be setting a tradition that may be followed for years, and they hope to plan it so effectively
that it will be followed for years.

FACULTY
It has been said that the high school years are the
happiest years of a person's life. If this is true then
the people who make them the happiest must be
teachers and friends. The teachers have. guided and
instructed the seniors for the past three years. They
have tried to give the students an appreciation of
the wonderful things in life. At right Miss Johnson
teaches world history. Below Mr. Gebhart instructs
his senior class in the principles of American government.
ROW: SUSAN ZIELSDORF, CAROL BECK, LORETTA JACKSON, ROBERT POPP, ALLEN ROTHMAN,
SCHERYL NELSO .
Giving Students an education in the many areas of art,
literature, and beauty and interesting them in the world
are the objectives of the teachers on this page. Left above,
Mr. Christy shows students an art form. Above right
Mrs. McCulloch teaches social problems. Below left, Mr.
Hansen teaches literature. Below right Mr. Payne shows
a student the world of information in the library.
