Lives of great men all remind us
We con make our lives sublime,
And, deporting, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time .
Footprints, that perhaps another
Soiling o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing shall toke heart again.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
\
Still achieving, still pursuing,
•••
Learn to labor and to wait .
Longfellow

The Senior Class Presents ''The Night of January
16th"
\hree
Cheers lo
r 1he Qireclor
O ur 1958 Senior Class Play "The Night of January 16th" held many surprises within the testimonies of the different characters that came to
testify either for or against Karen Andre, the
woman on trial for her life. Did she kill Bjorn
Faulkner or was her story true that in order to
avoid bankruptcy she planned to fake a suicide of
the international financier and then escape with
him to South America with a fortune in cash to
credit? We cringed in our seats, chewed our fingernails, and gasped in horror as we made our Senior
Class play a tremendous success . . . thanks to the
cast and crew for presenting such a fine
production .

Our Senior Class has grown mentally as well
as physically. We've learned to face our responsibilities and plan for our future. Now
we must leave our familiar halls and go out
to face the world we've learned so much
about. Next year a new set of K-jackets will
adorn the halls ... and our year of bustling,
rushing, and scurrying to make the last
graudating list will be forgotten. But many
of our memories . . . our laughter . . . our
embarrassments ... our tears ... will remain forever ....

In Memoriam of Louis Scola
Thomas Grey once wrote,
"Perhaps in th is neglected spot is la id
Some heart once pregnant with celestial fire;
Hands that the rod of empire might have swayed,
Or waked to ecstasy the living lyre."
We dedicate these words to the memory of Louis Scola Jr., class of 1959, our beloved
classmate, who died on May 3, 1958. We bear his death with deep sorrow, but find
solace in the memory of his wide achievements. We b id farewell to a fine student,
prom ising athlete, and loyal fr iend .
Music ... Music ... Music
A tribute to our country.
A star is born.

All a-bustle and bright for a fun-filled, memorable weekend.
Crazy and lazy ... excited and eager.

We greenhorns have had a wonderful year
after having been welcomed into K.H.S. w ith
friendliness and warmth. After learning the
ropes thru buying elevator passes, getting
lost in the shuffle and surviving init iat ions
. . . while being swarmed by little men in
K-Jackets ... we feel a part of the student
body . Now as we leave our dear old annex
for all the lucky incom ing sophs, we sigh a
sigh of sadness ...
Officers
Elaine Walton, Anna Messner, Lennie Siebert, Terry Rose.
Lost and Lonely ... Mystified
The Annex
The Annex, ah the Annex!
With its faded walls of brown .
(I do not lean upon them
for fear they' ll tumble down .)
Yes, there is something beautiful
W ithin these hallowed walls .
A voice from generations past
Dawn ta us gently calls:
What fun it is fo• sophomores
To tread these sagging floors!
What fun to swing those squeaky boards
Which teachers call " the doors ."
" Tear down, tear down the annex!
Tear down those hallowed walls!
Get out before the roofing gives
And round about you falls! "
Ah yes! Here is a bu ild ing
Where true enjoyment reigns,
Where hordes of eager sophomores
Have fertilized their brains.
" Evacuate the bu ilding
If you would save your skin!
Those beams that hold the ceiling upWho knows when they' ll fall in?"
Yes, there is something charming
About these ancient halls.
And there is something beautiful
About these mouldy walls.
Then quietly, unhappily
We' ll leave through those old doors.
Our feet, once eager in their flight
Will leave those sagging floors .
Ah, can it be the corpses
Of students who have d ied
While waiting for a breath of air
Which had to stay outside?
Then, silent, between the buildings,
We ' ll mutely stand around
And cheer as the dear old Annex
Comes tumbling to the ground .
Sophomores .. . as usual , loafing!!
Or can it be the spirits
Of students who expired
While waiting for the boiler room
To get the furnace fired?

Wild ... Whooping ... and Wonderful ... !!
On the night of May 2 prom-goers began their evening with Moonlight and Orchids. The time flew so
fast as we flitted from coketail to coketail ... and
finally drifted in to the Prom just as our beautiful
Queen Jill Brunner and her handsome King Carl
Bergren were being crowned. We danced till midnight, casting off our tiny pointed shoes when they
became too much for us to bear. We enjoyed a
movie
premiere and
returned to the
Ballroom to
dance and dine through one of the most memorable
nights of the year. Parks and ponds were places
for picnics the next day as a lovely dawn brought
through a sparkling warm sunrise ... sleepy heads
rested on
sleepier
shoulders
as our 1958
Prom activities come to a close.

Hey, dig that crazy music . . . Mr. Gaarder's playing those
jazz records again ... All of this year the choirs have been
kept busy preparing for their concerts, their competitive events
at the district and state meets ... and most of all for that
weekend when A Cappello presented their program at
St. Olaf's College on May 17 ... All in all, both Mr. Gaarder
and his choirs should be commended for their superfantabulous (?) job!!!

Our

student
came to us last August from Mainhardt, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. In June she graduated from
MBHS with honors, after having
carried a full program of studies
which included American Problems, Speech, American Literature,
French, Chemistry, and A Cappello
Choir. Her participation in a wide
range of extracurricular and club
activities has given her a wellrounded year of experiences of the
American teen-age girl. Many lasting friendships have been made this
past year, and, as she returns to
Germany, Dorothee takes with her
a vast amount of affection from
her Kenosha classmates. She has
been a rea I Ambassador of Goodwill" from her country to ours.

It seems like a dream too good to be

And it's all mine to share with you.

That's K.H.S .'s pep club this year,
Really spry and full of new cheers.
"One in a million" describes this gal
She has pep with a plus.
For three years now she's been a pal
To each and everyone of us.
In our hearts she'll hold her fame,
By now you know, Marita's her name.
Laughing and joking are two traits
Of another among our greats.
Always routing for our team
Donna's really on the beam.
Sophomore Cheerleaders
LEFT TO RIGHT: Pat Hallager, Lorraine Haubrich, Sandra
Koos, Barbara Wade, Edith Jornt.
Blonde and fair describes our Queen,
Sparkling and gay as a teen.
Judy's personality is really great,
As a cheerleader she'll always rate.
School spirit is in her heart.
We'll all miss her when she parts.
That's Marilyn in our club,
Always there and in the hub.
The juniors and sophs will really try
To keep our school spirit its usual high.
If they can count on our being attent
At each and every school event.

Four returning lettermen greeted Coach Don
Sudkamp along with many promising Juniors
and Sophomores. What the team lacked in
height was made up in spirit and determination. They ended the season with a 11 win

BIG EIGHT, and as in the past seasons, lost
to Janesville in the State Sectionals.

This year's Swimming Team coached by
Frank Martin ended the season with a dual
record of 9 wins and 5 losses. In the State
Meet they placed seventh, due to a disqualification in the relay event. The outlook for
next season's team looks very good and
we wish Coach Martin loads of luck.

Hustlin' Harriers
This year's Cross-Country team, with
a new coach, Don Sudkamp, showed
an improvement over the past
year's teams. With Dennis Monroe
taking l st in the State Meet, and
two sensational Sophs, and the reliable Seniors, the Harriers took a
12th in the State. Out of six dual
meets, they won five, and they
captured fourth in the Big Eight.
With six lettermen returning, next
season's team should uphold this
fine record.

Grappling Golfers
With only two lettermen returning,
the outlook for Coach Joe Britteli's

certain Sophs and Jrs showing surprising strength, the linksmen captured the Big Eight Title. The team
was knocked out of contention for
the State Meet in the sectionals. CoCaptain Mickey Franklin, our lone

also fired a hole-in-one.

A Final Farewell from
154
Well ... here we are at the end of our book,
and the end of the year and ... misty-eyed
. . . we Seniors bid farewell to those who
follow us. Now that our high school days
have come to an end ... and there'll be no
more books to lug ... or verses to memorize
. . . or theorems to recite . . . or lockers to
stuff . . . we realize how much our high
school years have meant to us. We'll miss
the familiar couples walking hand in hand
down the hall . . . the rustle of girls' skirts
. . . the "men" in their K-jackets . . . the
odors from the chemistry lab ... the "group"
in the Park ... the trudge from the Annex
to the Main Building at -40 degrees ... all
the things that never meant so much to us
'til we had to leave them. Our laughing ...
loving ... loafing K.H.S.'ers ... we wept at
their Homecoming . . . twirled at Sub Deb
cheered at their football games . . .
clapped at their Variety Show ... squealed
at their wrestling meets . ' .. rooted at their
basketball games ... gasped at their class
play ... and glided at their Prom ... sadly
and reminiscingly. Our embarrassments ...
laughter . . . tears . . . all combine in our
storehouse of memories ... for it was a year
of fun . . . friendliness . . . and sorrow.
Memories . . . memories, some of which
will be forgotten . . . some of which will
remain forever as wonderful reminders of
our high school daze ...
