MEMO: They don't know it, but since the moment they streamed
through the doors in September, I've been watching them.
Running
between buildings, dodging raindrops, hailstones, snowflakes, discussing
"current affairs" in the halls, speeding to catch that bus, cheering in
the bleachers, I've been watching. I was disguised in all kinds of ways.
I wore levis, skirts and borrowed sweaters, football uniforms, shirts with
roll collars, 'most anything!
I took pictures and made a careful note
of everything they said and did. Finally, I wrote a book about it all.
This is my story . ... a story you'll never forget.

Kenosha 13
Racine Park 0
The Red Revils started the season with a victory
over Racine Park. Kenosha scored on a pass from
Bob Hartman to Gene Halmo and again when Eddie
Hart toured right end. Carrying the brunt of the
attack were Jim Steele, Gene Halmo, and Ed Hart.
Hartman completed three passes, one to Halmo and
two to Jerry Euting.
Kenosha 8
Racine Horlick 32
Horlick handed a stunned Kenosha its first loss.
Although Kenosha was outplayed, it fought until
the final whistle. The Rebels turned two fumbles
and an intercepted pass into touchdowns. Hartman's passes were Kenosha's threat; his strike to
Bill Dickson gave Kenosha its only touchdown. Ed
Hart and Captain Jim Steele were effective in the
rushing department.
Kenosha 6
Beloit 8
The Red Devils played one of their best games of
the season. After marching 64 yards on the opening kickoff, Jim Steele bolted over. The Purples,
gaining a touchdown, deadlocked the game. Kenosha, receiving the ball, was soon forced to punt.
Hard rushing blocked in an automatic safety and
eventual margin of victory.
Kenosha 13
Madison Central 6
The Red Devils proved to be too powerful for Madison Central. A blocked punt resulted in Kenosha's
first T.D., made by Jim Steele. A fumbled punt gave
Central a touchdown. Four plays later Kenosha
scored again as Eddie Hart went over on a fake
buck. Ron Holly's kick was wide and that was the
game.
Kenosha 21
Racine Park 1 2
Coach Jaskwhich's squad rolled over Racine Park
before a Homecoming crowd of 5,000. Park fumbles alertly recovered by Kenosha meant the difference. Leading the offense were Captain Jim Steele,
Ed Hart, and Gene Halmo. Hartman took to the
air, completing a touchdown pass to Ed Hart.
Kenosha's line functioned well on offense, particularly Jake Pool and Gene Bilotti.
Kenosha 14
Madison West 13
An underrated West battled until the closing minutes . Within four minutes K.H.S. scored . In the second quarter Ed Hart carried the ball into Kenosha's
end zone, and Jim Steele plunged over. After the
Madison eleven scored, Hart went over for Kenosha. West tallied, but Bill Dickson blocked the try

KENEWS
This Is Your Life
These four find out what's cooking around school and pion the menu
for KENEWS. Chief cooker-uppers are Corol Jeon Andersen, student
advisor; Ruth Wallig, feature editor; Barbara Blogoeff, editor; ond
John McEvoy, columnist.
The staff isn't always on o merry-go-round, but these sportsmen, Fronk
Migliano ond John DeSontis, just like to "play the horses."
Someone on the staff is always scooting around for news. They keep
things moving, too, papers, that is. Keep an eye on fast-moving Fred
Farace, Shirley Hollers, business manager; Kay Crawford, Lee DeRoos,
Darlene Cina, and Connie Rizzo, circulation manager.
The KENEWS "line-up" lines up feature and news stories and puts
them into lines of print. Handing you a line here are Margaret
Kusche, Nancy O'Donnell, Ed Kamin, Ronald Balk, Emilie Sauvoy, and
Rito Trotta.
Society takes its bow as Katie Plocek and Rose Marie Bentkowski sip
their 3:30 tea. Phyllis Kaiser and Jeanette Schaller adjust their gloves
to the situotion, since they have their hands in this, too, as typists.
Big game hunters find their sport in hunting up advertisers. Getting
ready for the "take" are Dick Vite, Roger Horne, and Gil Yeconi.
Artist Ralph Pitz is always on hand to sketch such interesting subjects
as these.
Below: KENEWS reporters are always alert and ready for action.
"Eorly to bed and early to rise,
Gives good reporters news-hungry eyes."
Representatives from all departments of KE NEWS find themselves sittin'
on top of the world. Surveying this wide world are Paul Schutt,
photographer; Dennis Grimes, ad man; Mel Kruger, photographer; and
Leon Travanty, artist.
On the opening page you saw Homecoming Queen Barbara Booth and
her manager, Jerry Euting. Just below are First Attendant Janet Veconi, Queen Barbara, and Second
Attendant Jill Pryse. At the bottom
all the candidates and their managers . ... . 1. Zoi Ann Macarra,
Jill Pryse, Barbara Booth, Janet

It's Mardi Gras, New

all rolled into one! For
a whole week we searched

cheers, bands, campaign
stunts we'll always remember.

It's the biggest night in the year.
Queen Barbara has been
crowned, and we're celebrating in a big way. It was ter rific. First, NO RAIN, and
second, WE BEAT PARK

HOMECOMING GAME!
Lots of ingenuity really paid
off for K-Teens, first place;
Y-Teens, second; and KENEWS,
third, in the float competition.

MESSAGE TO A GRADUATE
You are one of an incredibly small and lucky minority of the world's people .
Your way of life -
the American Way -
is a miracle of history which you are free
to enjoy, not because of any effort on your part better things of life -
not because you deserve the
but simply and solely because you were lucky enough to be
born into it. Here are some of the real differences between you and unlucky millions
throughout the world.
More people live in huts of mud and straw than in any other kind of shelter.
More people travel on their own feet, or on the backs of small animals, like the
burro, than in any other fashion.
More people have a life expectancy of thirty-five years than of any higher
figure. This is about half of the life expectancy of the average American High School
graduate.
More mothers and fathers watch half their children die than see all their children
grow to adult manhood or womanhood.
More people live without the help of a doctor when they fall ill than enjoy even
the most simple medical care.
More people eat only what they themselves can grow have no harvest -
and starve when they
than obtain their food in any other fashion.
More people do not know what it is to vote than have ever voted.
The advancement of your way of life and the spreading of its benefits to others
is your future responsibility.
For those who have the creative spark, ability, courage,
human kindness, stick-to-itiveness, and leadership there will always be opportunities
unlimited.

"Liberty is an accurate index, in men
and nations, of general progress."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the beginning, man shivered in the rain, the sleet, the storm.
He ran fearfully from the beasts. He ate berries and insects to eke
out a bare survival.
But slowly, gradually, man built civilization.
He made progress because he had what no other living creature
has - the urge to improve himself, to improve his lot - the urge to
make progress.
But this urge was frequently stifled. Kings, pharaohs, caesars,
dictators commanded, "Stay as you are!" And when freedom to make
progress was removed, progress halted.
Yet, time after time, man's God-granted urge to make progress
broke through restraints. Man struggled to win more and more
freedom.
Finally, in America, men fought to win greater freedom than
man had ever known. And they used their freedom to make greater
progress than man has ever known.
The greatest frontiers now beckon. The greatest scientific discoveries are yet to be made. The greatest industries are still undeveloped. The greatest freedom lies in the future, and the future
belongs to you, the young people of the nation.
