NOTES:
-Pages within the pamphlets may be out of sequence because of the scanning
process.
-Numbering on these pages may include the date and sequence within each
pamphlet.
The original materials used in this project were from the FWB Fred Wesley
Brown Collection. Some documents were photocopied before they were scanned
into the PDF document and those will be available in print format. The originals
may exist either in the FWB collection or at the Western Kenosha County
Historical Society- depending on family decisions at a later date. These
materials were contributed because the family wished that the history that they
and their families have experienced can be saved for the future generations.
Some "published" documents were dismantled in order to provide a 1:1 scan of
the original item rather than a scan of a photocopy. The decision to do this was
made because the INFORMATION was more important than the media that was
used to present the information. Naturally, singular ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS
were not destroyed.
Researchers should also refer to the Valentine Digital archives which may at the
SALEM COMMUNITY LIBRARY for more images in this collection or digital
images of items that may relate to this booklet or related to the topic.

J. ERNEST BROOK, President
J. Ernest Brook, president of the State Bank of Antioch, has
been serving in this capacity since the incorporation of our
bank in 1926. At eighty-four years of age, he is a veteran of
sixty-three years in banking in the Village of Antioch . You will
find him in his office daily attending to his management duties.
His one great interest hos always been the development of our
area both economically and culturally and he has constantl y
dedicated himself to provide the very best in banking facilities
for our Lake Region.
Mr. Brook, leaving his studies at the Un iversity of Wisconsin
in 1897, came to Antioch to assist in the operation of the
then existing Bank of Antioch. At that time he was a resident
of Burlington, Wisconsin and may have be,en Antioch's first
commuter. He traveled from his home to Antioch and back
each day for about ten years, usually by train but occasionally
by a team of fast horses and a road wagon . Long and tedious
hours were the rule in the banking business in those days and
it is rather difficult to realize in our age of mechanization that
Mr. Brook recalls only too well working until two o'clock in
the morning at times to perform by hand the many tasks that
now are handled by machines and a well trained staff.
A keen interest in the out of doors and all forms of competitive athletics has always characterized Mr. Brook's leisure
hour activities. He likes greatly to discuss the current baseball situation with customers and friends and tells many interesting anecdotes of the early greats of the game; with a
number of whom he played in semi-professional leagues.
As a reward for his many years of faithful service, J. Ernest
Brook has had the satisfaction of seeing his bank and the
community grow and prosper and in keeping with his youthful spirit, he predicts only the best for the area in general.

In this view we have an I.B.M. machine capable of
making 32 separate sorts and handling up to 1000 items
per hour. Such speed of handling permits almost immediate forwarding of checks drawn on other banks.
Items drawn on us are quickly correlated to the proper
accounts. Mrs. Palusis handles this I.B.M. machine
skillfully despite its formidab le array of buttons and
keys. Every entry to our records is proofed and balanced
in this machine eliminating any possibility of error. Miss
Braeckman handles and sorts "on us" checks and deposit
slips after they have been processed by the proof machine.
